Observant Firefighter Finds Blaze Inside Local Business

Fire Avery Ave

Several local businesses were spared what could had been extensive damage thanks to an alert firefighter.

Firefighter Dustin Buzze had just returned to his station following a false alarm call when he noticed an alarm going off at a nearby business.  Firefighter Buzze alerted other firefighters to the alarm at 229 Mull Street, which is a vacant business location.  The alarm was sounding as Firefighter Buzze began a scene size-up which included a walk around the property.  As Buzze made his way around back of the property, saw broken glass and smoke coming from the building as well as flames inside.

Fire crews quickly gained entry and extinguished the blaze which prevented damage from extending to several other businesses located on the upper level facing Avery Avenue.  An investigation into the fire is being conducted.  No one was injured and damage was limited to smoke in the upper level businesses.  Agencies involved include the Morganton Department of Public Safety and Burke County EMS.
