City Attorney

The City Attorney provides in-house legal counsel to the City Council, the City Manager, and Department staff concerning state and federal law, city ordinances, legal procedure, and matters relating to official duties. The City Attorney also represents the City in litigation and related matters, and drafts ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and similar documents.

The City Attorney is appointed by the City Council and serves at the Council's pleasure. The City Attorney must be a member of the State Bar of North Carolina in good standing.
