Early Morning Structure Fire on East Side

On March 27, 2024 at approximately 12:10am, Members of the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to 224 Morehead Street for a structure fire. Upon arrival, units found the residence fully engulfed with flames. Burke EMS, Morganton City Electric, and Piedmont Gas responded to assist with fire ground operations. The Burke County Sheriffs Office also responded due to an disturbance with a neighbor. As of the time of this release, firefighters were still on-scene handling fire ground operations. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A deceased person was located inside the residence. At this time it is believed that decedent is the owner of 224 A Morehead St., Yvonne Jamison. However, positive Identification of the decedent is awaiting autopsy results. The State Bureau of Investigations responded to assist MDPS Investigators with the cause and origin of the fire. At this time the origin of the fire has been identified, however; the cause remains undetermined. The investigation is still ongoing.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified Yvonne Singleton Jamison of 224 A Morehead St, Morganton, as the deceased person located inside the home destroyed by fire on March 27. The cause of death is still pending at this time.
