Multiple month investigation leads to the arrest of a Morganton couple.

On 10/31/2023 Morganton Department of Public Safety Narcotics with assistance from BCSO Narcotics, executed a search warrant at 1204 Carbon City Rd. Michael Andrew Conley and Kayla Marie Whisnant both had outstanding warrants for drug trafficking. Conley also had warrants for possession of firearm by felon and possession of stolen goods. Whisnant and Conley were arrested at the scene without incident.  

During the search of the residence both fentanyl and methamphetamine were located.

Michael Andrew Conley age 34 of Morganton, NC was charged with:

-N.C.G.S 90-95(H)4, Trafficking Heroin

-N.C.G.S 14-415.1, Possession of firearm by felon

-N.C.G.S 90-95(A)P2, Possession with the intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine

-N.C.G.S 14-71.1 Possessing stolen goods

Conley was transported to the Burke County where he was placed under a $90,000 secure bond. Conley has an initial appearance on November 1, 2023.

Kayla Marie Whisnant age 34 of Morganton, NC was charged with:

-N.C.G.S 90-95(H)4, Trafficking Heroin

Whisnant was transported to the Burke County where she was placed with no bond. Conley has an initial appearance on November 1, 2023.

The investigation remains open and more charges may be pending. All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
