Semi-Skilled Laborers – Recreation (Part-time)

Performs semi-skilled and limited skilled labor under general supervision to maintain and improve City facilities.  Duties include painting, general carpentry, general plumbing, equipment assembly, and similar tasks involving the use of various tools and equipment.  Duties will also include other maintenance tasks such as landscaping, outdoor litter removal, emptying garbage, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning bathrooms, and other duties as assigned. Must be able to work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions. 

Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.  Some weekend work may be required.  Some experience in painting, light construction, plumbing and carpentry work.  Ability to work safely with equipment used in maintenance. Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in landscaping and maintenance of recreational facilities, parks and grounds.  Ability to perform heavy manual work in varying weather conditions.  Ability to drive a truck.  Ability to understand and interpret oral and written instructions.   Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.

Must have a valid N.C. driver’s license. Must be able to work with a variety of tools, equipment and materials associated with maintenance and lawn care.  Must be able to lift and handle weights between 25 and 100 pounds safely.  Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, stoop and walk for long periods of time. Exposure to all types of adverse weather conditions, plants, insects and other animals.
