The Development and Design Department is seeking a new teammate!  We are looking for a well-organized, flexible, multi-tasker with strong people skills and the ability to provide calm, courteous, and empathetic service to citizens and fellow employees. 

What does this position do?

  • Provides administrative support for the Development and Design Department with a focus on the Building Inspections and Permitting Division.
  • Provides customer service for phone calls and walk-ins, providing relevant information and guidance.   
  • Handles permit issuing, including verifying appropriate licenses for each contractor, generating billing & coordinating payment, filing & maintaining required documents, and updating work-tracking software (iWorQ).
  • Schedules building and fire inspections.
  • Compiles data, completes reports, and maintains records, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness.

The Basics

Graduation from high school or GED is required; an Associate’s degree or other post-secondary education in business administration, secretarial science, or other field related to the nature of the work performed, is valued.  One (1) to four (4) years of clerical or administrative support work in a public or private sector work environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. NC Notary Public or ability to become a Notary within 6 months of hire. 

Salary:  This is a non-exempt position and anticipated hiring range is $34,000 - $37,000 annually ($16.35 - $17.79 an hour).
